What I Remember

In the rural town of Brookehaven, two strangers meet each other in a stroke of fate. Ryan documents everything in life with a camera, and Sam, a lonely troublemaker, welcomes Ryan into her life. In the present day, Ryan has gone missing, and Sam reminiscences on their past as she goes through the old footage and searches for Ryan.

Shot on a camcorder with a DIY ethos in the summer of 2024, What I Remember is a collection of intimate moments and glitchy, datamoshed memories, telling a tale about rural upbringing, queer community, and the recollection of the past.

What I Remember won the Unnamed Footage Festival's Founders Seal award following its premiere.

PRESS

"Alex Hera proves with this film that memory can be an aesthetic, and emotion a form of storytelling... if you’re drawn to emotionally textured films like Skinamarink—works that live in mood and fragment—this is a journey worth taking." - Javiera Vega, Grimoire of Horror

"Hera builds tension and mood from the ground up, taking your hand as the story unravels and things grow darker by the minute... They zipper the story with natural, strong dialogue as the driving force behind the story." - Bee Dolores, B-Sides Badlands

"Supported by authentic, compelling performances, Alex proves that found-footage is not just an effective genre—it’s a transformative one. It draws the audience so fully into the present moment that you begin to slip into a vivid, nostalgic memory—so much so that when the credits roll, you come back changed." - Myles McEwan, Director of "Nightfall: A Paranormal Investigation"

“Alex Hera is blazing a new trail in the found footage space, and I feel very strongly we should all follow.” - Tyler Crosby, Curator of First Friday Films at the River Union Stage
